In this project we were tasked with creating a 12 page interactive, hyperlinked document which used only archival material for its imagery and text. We had to choose imagery from the Public Domain and text from Authorama. The text that I chose was a chapter from The Pleasure of Life by Sir John Lubbock called The Beauties of Nature. In this chapter Lubbock points out the beauties in the world around us, from the skies to the leaves

The concept I drew from this text was to take the viewer on a meditative journey of noticing, slowly revealing beautiful elements of nature which are often overlooked. I structured my hyper-docz so that the viewer was first introduced to the bigger, more obvious components of nature before focusing in on the smaller details of nature which are often overlooked. I also reflected the idea of slowing down and noticing by transitioning the techniques I used within my imagery to go from fast paced digital techniques, to more slower analogue techniques.
This project offered a great opportunity to experiment with a range of analogue techniques but also gave me opportunity to develop my digital animation skills in order to make the document as interactive and immersive as possible. I worked within the mediums of collage, cyanotype, dry point etching, Lino printing and more. I also included sound to take full advantage of the digital space and really help the viewer to feel that they are immersed in nature.
